2011 Selma Jeanne Cohen Fund Lecture
The 2011 lecture will occur Nov. 4 as part of the Fulbright Association 34th Annual Conference, “Living in a Diverse, Crowded World,” to be held in Washington, D.C.

Applications for the 2011 award must be received electronically by midnight Oct. 14, 2011.
Applicant Eligibility
Applicants may be working in any field of dance scholarship and may be residents of any country. There are no requirements with regard to age, field of dance scholarship, or academic degree. Lectures must concern previously unpublished work that has not been presented at other meetings.
Selection Process
The award recipient will be selected through a competitive process. Decisions will be made by the Fulbright Association.
Guidelines
1) Applications may be submitted by scholars in any area of dance scholarship.
2) Applications must concern a complete, although previously unpublished, work. Applications to present research or other scholarship that has already been published will not be reviewed. Work accepted for publication but not scheduled to be published until after the Fulbright Association conference may be considered.
3) Applicants should identify opportunities or needs for other scholarship related to their presentations.
4) If applicable, proposals should include an assessment of the impact of the applicant’s own Fulbright or other international exchange experience on his or her work in the field of dance scholarship and may also include a more general assessment of the Fulbright Program’s impact, or the impact of other international exchange programs, on the field of dance in a particular country or region.
Selection Criteria
The lecturer will be selected on the basis of the quality of his or her presentation plan, scholarship, qualifications, and references. The lecturer must agree to attend the Fulbright Association conference and make his or her presentation on the date requested by the Fulbright Association. The recipient will be expected to have his or her own health, travel, and other necessary insurance.
Application Procedure
1) Please include a cover letter of no longer than one page, briefly describing your project.
- 2) Submit a narrative of no longer than ten pages, double-spaced (3,750 word limit), describing the research or scholarly work to be presented and its significance in advancing dance scholarship and addressing the guidelines above.
- 3) Submit a presentation plan describing the media you will use to make your presentation of NO LONGER than one hour’s length. The presentation plan must include a lecture of no longer than 30 minutes and a 30-minute period to answer questions from the audience. Strict attention must be paid to time limitations. The presentation plan should also address the use of audio and/or video or other supplementary materials. Please feel free to submit on one DVD media that you use in your lecture.
- 4) Provide two letters of reference from individuals well acquainted with your work as a dance scholar.
- 5) Provide a copy of your resume or C.V.
