Fulbright Association Chapter Pages Voted Number One for Second Year in a Row

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 31, 2004) – For the second year in a row, the Fulbright Association is recipient of Harris Internet Services’ Best Chapter Pages Achievement Award. The award, announced on Aug. 10 at Harris Internet Services’ 2004 Users Conference, recognizes the Association’s chapter pages for “provid[ing] members with the most satisfying end-user experience from both content and design perspectives.”

“The site’s easy-to-navigate national chapter map has played a big part in our receiving the award,” said Fulbright Association Director of Membership Development Marshall Ellis. Users can click any state on the map and be directed to the chapter(s) serving it.

Fulbright Association Board Member Linda Scanlan suggested including the map on the Association’s web site. “I wanted to make it as easy as possible for visiting students, scholars, and teachers to find the chapter serving the area where they would be during their grant. They could then connect easily to the Fulbright alumni network,” said Ms. Scanlan, a retired professor of journalism at Norfolk State University and an active member of the Association’s Southeast Virginia Chapter.

Launched in April 2003 as a part of the Fulbright Association’s online community, the chapter pages give the Association’s affiliated chapters a presence on the Internet to promote chapter activities and events.

“Offering each chapter its own web page on the Association’s web site is a win-win situation for our chapters, our members, and visiting Fulbrighters throughout the United States,” said Lisa Chapin, the Association’s director of chapter relations. “Chapters have their own accessible, easy-to-use web pages to promote chapter activities and events, and our members and visiting Fulbrighters can locate information on Fulbright-related activities and events in their areas.”

“The chapter web pages have been a great addition to both the Association’s web site and membership offerings,” said Mr. Ellis. “Each chapter can now post on the web information on chapter activities. Members surfing the web can quickly locate chapter information of interest to them. Prior to the launch of the chapter web pages, members seeking information on chapters had to make a phone call or send an e-mail and wait for a response. Now, for anyone with Internet access, that information is just a few clicks away.”

The Fulbright Association’s chapter web pages can be accessed online by going to www.fulbright.org/chapters and clicking on Chapter Areas.
