Institutional Membership Policy

Revised March 2003 

The Board hereby resolves as follows regarding Institutional Membership in The Fulbright Association, Inc.:

I.  Pursuant to Article II, Section 2 of the Association's Bylaws, the creation of the category of Institutional Membership is confirmed.

II.  The Institutional Membership of all Institutional Members in good standing as of March 1, 2003, is confirmed.

III.  Concerning the acceptance of additional Institutional Members:

            A.  The Board authorizes the Executive Director of the Association, without further approval, to accept as an Institutional Member an educational institution that is accredited by any organization recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation or by the U.S. Department of Education.

            B.  The Board authorizes the Executive Director of the Association, with the approval of the Board's Membership Committee (or, for applications acted upon at intervals between meetings of the Board, with the approval of the Chair of the Board's Membership Committee), to accept or reject as an Institutional Member an educational or charitable organization not included in paragraph (3) (a.) above.  Although qualifications of each applicant should be separately evaluated, the Board contemplates that the applications of organizations which meet the standards of Sec. 501 (c)(3) or 501 (c)(6) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code will be generally accepted.

IV.  As provided in Article II, Section 4 of the Association's bylaws, each Institutional Member shall have one vote in all matters to be decided by the members of the Association.  For that purpose the Executive Director of the Association shall request each Institutional Member to identify to the Association the individual who is authorized to cast such vote on behalf of such Institutional Member.
