Fulbright NY Holiday Happy Hour & Open Salon on 11 December 2012. Toasting the upcoming holidays while saying adieu to the end of the year. Our salons are opportunities to hear about each other's work by doing short presentations in an informal atmosphere, for feedback, critique or to instigate thought.

Fulbright NY Holiday Happy Hour & Open Salon on 11 December 2012. At this salon, we had the pleasure of hearing about these Fulbrighters' endeavors: Hilda Demsky, presented 6 giclee prints of her paintings and talked about her technique. Our own chapter prez Mike Uretsky presented excerpts of Fulbrighter Adam B. Ellick's NY Times documentary Class Dismissed, which profiled Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani girl who campaigned for girls' education & was shot by the Taliban. Kim Foote read a short story about her experiences in Ghana. Howard Pflanzer read from his new book, DEAD BIRDS or AVIAN BLUES (and the book's illustrations were also done by a Fulbrighter, Juliane Pieper). Jerelle Kraus talked about her new book, All the Art That's Fit to Print (And Some That Wasn't): Inside the NY Times, which tells the true story of the world's first Op-Ed page & the rise of Op-Ed art towards becoming a globally influential idiom.
