Amy Russell wrote on the Chapters: Maine wall: Fulbright Board Has Three New Members Three new members have been appointed to the board of the Fulbright Association, Maine Chapter, according to chapter president Dr. Erika J. Waters: Dr. Dan Sandweiss was a Fulbright Scholar to Peru; Betty Leonard participated in Fulbright teacher exchanges to Hungary and Turkey; and Amy Russell participated in a teacher exchange to Hungary. The new board members will have three-year terms, starting immediately. These members join a board of Maine Fulbright alumni with international experiences and a commitment to international education. Other members include Dr. Jane Knox (Kazakhstan), Dr. Rob Lively (Germany), Dr. Frank Hubbard (Finland), Dr. Elaine Potoker (Costa Rica), Dr. Sue Crawford (Azerbaijan and Brazil); and Dr. Dorothy Klimis –Zacas (Greece and Italy). Dr. Waters was a Fulbright Scholar to Finland. The goals of the Fulbright Association are to welcome foreign Fulbrighters to Maine, to advocate for the program and international education in general, and to create a community of Fulbright alumni across the state. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. It is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries and was established by the U.S. Congress in 1946 under legislation introduced by then-Senator J. William Fulbright. For more information, please contact Erika J. Waters at ewaters@usm.maine.edu
