General Guidelines
for Facilitated Roundtable Discussion & Poster Session Proposals
-
All facilitators and
presenters must be members of the Fulbright Association; visiting
Fulbright students, scholars or teachers; or members of the Fulbright
Association in their country. If you are unsure of your membership
status or your eligibility to submit a proposal, please contact the
Fulbright Association at (202) 347-5543 or by
e-mail.
-
All facilitators and
presenters must register for the Fulbright Association 30th
Anniversary Conference: People & the Planet. Registration
information is available here. The
Fulbright Association is not able to waive conference registration fees
for facilitators and presenters. There are reduced registration rates
available for currently enrolled students and for early registrants.
-
Proposed discussion topics
and posters must relate to the conference theme and/or to the Fulbright
Program.
-
Proposed discussion topics
and posters should be presented so they are interesting and accessible
to non-experts in the field. Fulbright Association members represent
many disciplines, career stages and areas of expertise, as do visiting
Fulbrighters and representatives of sister Fulbright alumni
organizations abroad.
-
Facilitators and poster
session presenters are responsible for their own travel and
participation-related costs. Although the Fulbright Association is not
able to fund facilitators and presenters, the Association may be of
assistance in writing letters of invitation and support to selected
facilitators and presenters for use with third-party funding sources.
Please contact our office at (202) 347-5543 or by
e-mail to request such a letter.
-
Proposals, presentations,
and discussions may not be commercial or promotional in nature. The
following activities are prohibited: commercial sales pitches;
self-promotion; unwarranted criticism of a competitor; and distribution
of sales materials and promotional literature.
-
Proposals, presentations,
and discussions must be nonpartisan and may not endorse or oppose a
political party, a candidate for office, or other partisan organization.
Specific Guidelines for Facilitated
Roundtable Discussion Proposals
-
Roundtable discussions will
be 45 minutes long. Depending on the number of facilitators and topics
selected, facilitators may be asked to lead their discussion once,
twice, or three times during the session from 2:15 p.m. to 5 p.m., on
Friday, Nov. 2.
-
The topic of each session
should promote communication and interaction and should be conducive to
dialogue among up to 10 people.
-
Facilitators are not
expected to make presentations but should have up to ten specific
questions prepared to encourage participation by all individuals at the
roundtable.
-
The Fulbright Association
will not provide audiovisual equipment, photocopy materials, or provide
supplies for facilitators.
Specific Guidelines for Poster Session
Proposals
-
Posters should be no bigger
than 36”x 48”.
-
The Fulbright Association
will provide a white, 36”x 48”, three-panel presentation board for a fee
of $8 if you do not want to bring your own. Posters will be placed on
tables, which may be shared with other posters. The Association will
provide tacks and tape free of charge.
