Alison M. Friedman spoke on the current status of modern dance in China in the context of domestic economic forces and market pressures from abroad, as well as issues of individual expression and artists' search for a 'modern Chinese' identity/voice.
Her tour took her to Montreal, Canada (CINARS workshop), Scottsdale, Arizona (Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts “Destination China” series keynote), and the Asia Society of Washington DC (co-hosted by the Sidwell Friends School).
Ms. Friedman is currently a 2009-10 Arts Management Fellow at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. She is a leading expert on modern dance in China and founding director of Ping Pong Productions (www.pingpongarts.org)
